Toronto’s street-wise image mixed with their hard-edged sound made them instant staples on FM stations across the country. With the lead-off single "Even The Score", critics instantly took notice of the band as one of Canada’s most promising new groups. The now-classic title-track, "5035" and covers of the "Stones" "Let’s Spend The Night Together" and Eddie Schwartz’s "You Better Run" all drove home the message that Toronto was here, pushing their debut platinum in near record time.

They followed it up the next year with the album "Head On", which showed the versatility of a band capable of not only the straightforward rockers, but also the well-thought-out complexities of a good power ballad. With tracks such as "Enough is Enough", "Silver Screen" and "Still Talking About Love", the album quickly went platinum in 1981.

In 1982, they released "Get It On Credit", their third straight platinum record featuring tracks such as "Break Down The Barricades" and "Your Daddy Don’t Know". Their fourth album, "Girl’s Night Out" also quickly went gold. A Greatest Hits album was released in 1984, followed by "Assault and Flattery", featuring radio favorites "Kerry Anne" and "New Romance".
